Google Earth Tour Feature
March 18th, 2009 by John Rappold
Beginning with Google Earth V5, users have the ability to view and create animated/multimedia tours that include narration from within the software. The great team at ilovemoutains.org have put together an Appalachian Mountaintop Removal tour that demonstrates the vast area that a strip mining site requires, and the steps involved with mining the coal.
- Download the KMZ file
- Double-click to open (Google Earth 5+ required)
- Expand Appalachian Mountatintop Removal in the PLACES pane (if needed)
- Double-click the link for the tour
The ability to create tours in GE really opens new possibilities with this already incredibly useful software. If you want to learn how to create your own narrated tour, check out this tutorial at Google Earth Outreach.

That feature is incredible – kids can create a VERY professional multimedia tour, great classroom application. And it’s FREE
(Trying to control the GA factor here..lol)
