I think it is the teacher and parents who should make education relevant to students. Technology should become an inclusive tool. Where all are able to have access to hardware and applications. On the one hand I bet using technology is not exactly learning - just as using a remote control does not teach you about television. We are the slaves to the technology; not the technologist.

The H4 has only two mics, although they are better. Also, I think the H4 allows for overdubbing/bouncing of tracks, which I didn't need. I really wanted the surround capability for video work.

Very nice, sweet words. I, being a former student of yours, am glad I found you on here. In the band/color guard world you were our "coach" and you were a great one. There are only a few, sad to say, teachers of mine who made an impact on my life, and ones that I still think of. You were definitely one of those teachers for me. Thanks for being such a great teacher to us and for being our coach. I enjoy looking at your pictures on here. You do great photography work. Glad you are doing well and glad you decided to join the Facebook world!!!

Ryan, I believe there are Dreamweaver extensions out there that work with Smarty tags. I've never used a template engine, and don't know much about them. I usually just use a pre-defined CSS template from the ones provided by DW, and then customize. Working with CSS these days is like learning anoither coding language, but it sure makes things nicer as long as all of the major browsers are supported.

I really need to write a post about the Adobe Dreamweaver Developer's Toolbox of PHP extensions. I have a real love/hate relationship with it.

I'm definitely not a real designer. I spend a lot of time looking at other sites, picking and choosing what I like, and I have developed a kind of style over the years.. I aim for a nice look that loads quickly. For the new site I'm trying to add AJAX functionality, and of course that adds yet another layer of complexity and learning. The new site is by far the hardest and most time consuming project I've done at SCOCA, and has not been as fun to work on.

Hey John,

I have had a similar experience with FaceBook - you never really stop being a teacher do ya? I remember crying my eyes out at graduation, worse than a funeral.

And the rewards (though they seemed few when you were in the classroom), just keep coming for a lifetime. I am so proud of what my former students have accomplished - makes it all so worthwhile.
